Shoreline

traits: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Strain Name: Shoreline

Genetics: hybrid of unknown genetics

Source: Root Organic Boulder

Price: $45 eight

Grade: A

Type: Supposedly hybridized in Southern Texas in an effort to bring back the old “Road kill Skunks of the early 80’s which have mainly been replaced with sweeter and fruity skunks we are more use too these days.

Looks: Beautiful buds, very compact with medium sea green colored cover leaves. The most noticeable thing in the appearance of the flowers is the complete and profuse covering of large hairy pistils! This is some HAIRY bud here and this aspect of appearance does beckon back to the intense Skunks that were around in the early eighties. The pistils are of many colors ranging from brick- red, to golden yellow to light- green and this adds to the bag appeal. The flowers were harvested, handled, and cured to perfection, as normal for the medicine coming from this dispensary.10/10

Smell: This is where it gets different from the descriptions and accounts I have read about the Shoreline strain. From all I could find out about it the strain is “clone only” and is just Daaaaank skunk that stinks up everything coming in contact with it. There was some talk of “Shoreline” being a catchphrase for any unknown dank skunk that showed up in south Texas. This is the first time I have seen this strain offered in Colorado mmj dispensaries as well as my first experience with it. To me it was a sweet-tart lemon berry, fuel smell that first hit my nose. Followed by a distinct cedar wood smell, which was pleasant. It also has a very distinct peppery smell to it which is very pervasive. It is a very medium pungent stank, but not what my experience of strong Skunks has been. At any rate it smells great and I enjoyed it. 8.9/10

Taste: This strain is one of Root Organics “Vegan” offerings so it is very smooth and easy on the lungs. While the taste was not overwhelming it was very delicious. The overall most noticeable taste was a light lemony fuel which was completely surrounded and pervaded by black pepper. You can definenately feel and taste the pepper on the back of the tongue and throat. This is a unique taste to me and was an awesome excellent surprise. I love the taste even if it is totally different than what I had researched about the strain. 9.2/10

Effects: Now this is interesting because even though the Shoreline wasn’t very skunky tasting (actually much more pleasant than the Road kill Skunk flavor!) the experience completely reminds me of some of the old-time Skunks I am familiar with. The first two times I smoked about a quarter-gram blown glass bowl and the most noticeable thing was right off the bat I became very euphoric and so relaxed that I almost drifted off to sleep, very pleasant actually. Then on the third time I upped the amount of medicine to about ¾ grams and the experience was quite different. My head became much more alert even though the body had no real disposition to move anywhere. There’s really no other way to explain the head other than to say that everything becomes pleasantly psychedelic. Great meds to listen to old Pink Floyd on or MGMT or whatever turns you on! All the senses become much more acute on Shoreline but there is no in-your-face aspect to the experience as with some Sativa- heavy hybrids. This under- current of euphoria and slight couch lock runs underneath the experience at all times, and seems to prevent the mind from going completely horizontal on you. To me this type of highly- creative possibility was always felt in the old school skunk strains but it was sooo strong that it often became very overwhelming and disorientating. I often felt spacey the rest of the day after old-time skunk sessions, but shoreline kinda just slowly disappeared leaving me feeling quite right with the ways and rules of the world! 9/10

Potency: Medium potency lasted about 2-3 hrs or so according to dose. 9/10

White Rhino

traits: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Strain Name: White Rhino

Grade: A

Type: Indica Dominant Hybrid 90% Indica, 10% Sativa (Brazilian Sativa x South Indian Indica x Afghani)

Looks: This phenotype of the Rhino produced large very dense, extremely crystalline monster buds. Colors ranged from light olive green to some leaves that actually appeared white, but the overall appearance is that of flowers covered in frost and ice after an early snow. Enough to strike fear in the heart of the inexperienced smoker by looks alone!

Smell: Very deep, dank, and pungent. A very complex, almost overwhelming aroma (actually most aspects of this strain, true to its namesake, were quite overwhelming). When sniffed lightly you definitely get deep berry tones mixed with a spicy anise aroma. Then, when you really stick the ol’ snoz in and start huffin’ deeply, it starts smelling like sour, peppery, baby poo, for lack of a better term! Hummmm, maybe we’ll just leave it at deeply punjent, spicey and sour! A strong 9/10 if you’re into to that sorta thing.

Taste: Very delightful, yet deceiving taste. On the inhale it is like sour patch candy with hints of anise and clove, very sweet and tangy. As you exhale it is very peppery in the throat, not unpleasant at all though, and leaves the tongue and lips slightly numb with a distinct,uber-sweet, anise aftertaste. I give a solid 8 in flavor ( I would go higher, but I personally prefer a more citrus – fuel thing goin’ on). That being said, I would add that this medicine almost taste toooo good for the potency. Taste so great that it’s easy to get in over your head and end up in another dimension for 4 solid hours!!!

Effects: As we all know by now, Rhino can end up in the 20% and above THC range, when grown with lots a tender lovin’ care, and this batch is clearly a good example of the higher end of that spectrum. I say this here because effects vary greatly according to dosage levels. Even 1 good hit, in a nice glass, can have very pronounced effect for a good hour or more. In smaller doses I seem to feel the sativa effects more, hits right behind the eyes immediately and the psychoactive stuff starts flying all around, I feel energy coursing throughout my body and my brain is flooded with brilliant lucid thought patterns. Even at this dose, I get numb at the extremities with great muscle relaxation, and pain relief, but can still motor-vate. However the higher dosages are a totally different story all together. When this medicine was perfectly cured (three months in large mason jars down in the catacombs) I rolled a nice 2 gram fatty and smoked it up out on the porch swing, on the veranda. WOW, ZAAAANGGG, it hit me like a steaming locomotive, running late for an important date, uhhh so to speak. Half way through the fatty my whole body heated up, sweaty forehead and all, and I began to loose all feeling in my body (should a stopped there, but I had some extreme lower back things goin on that day). Before I knew it my whole body was completely paralyzed, way beyond the usual Indica couch lock, and my brain was into a full on psychedelic experience. All I could do was watch pleasant colors, clouds, and glowing aspen leaves float past my vibrating eye sockets. I spent the next 4-5 hour in this paralyzed psychedelic state, being astutely observed by a very jealous, bored, Chihuahua. Well after that experience I learned respect for strong medicine and could truly say I had “Rode the Rhino train!!” As far as severe pain goes this is a very effective medicine, as I felt no pain for a good 6 hours, but you better be ready for the psychoactive effects, as well as having a whole day to spend on the porch, not doing much. 10/10 for medicinal effects.

Potency: Extremely strong medicine! Not for beginners. This batch was especially made to work well as a strong narcotic pain reliever. I feel that it faired well in potency smell and taste from fully organic dirt grow. All aspects of environment were strictly controlled and the plants listened to Jazz,G.D., Ween, Phish, and other forms of appropriate music throughout the grow. I love my babies.

The Palin

traits: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Strain Name: The Palin

From: Patient’s Choice of Colorado

Grade: B+

Type: Organic Hybrid

Looks: Nice dark green bud, with very curly, dark orange, pistols that kind of curl a loose web over the bud.

Smell: The main thing that stands out in the scent of this bud, is its spiciness. It smells almost peppery, combined with the ever-present dankness that hangs around most good bud. Upon grinding, it has a very sour scent; almost like a Chem or Durban strain.

Taste: The flavor is very much like buttered popcorn, with a very strong popcorn taste afterward.

Effects: The buzz comes on fast, and is mostly in the head radiating out into the body. Thoughts are a bit disjointed and hard to keep together. I become easily distracted. Stomach pains and nausea were considerable beforehand, but after dosing are very much dulled. Eyes are definitely dry, but vision and reflexes are near par, even with my thoughts being a bit cloudy. The radiating warmth from the back of my neck continued for the first hour and a half or so.

Potency: This one lasted 3-4 hours, and it had a fairly quick comedown. I’d give it a 7 out of 10 for potency.

Purple Haze

Strain Name: Purple Haze

Grade: A-

Type: Sativa

Looks: Light dull green with thick milky orange hairs. Loads of crystals. (9/10)

Smell: When I cracked the jar it smelled delicious. Earthy peppery herb smell with a linger of berry fruit. When I broke it up it smelled super delicious like berry fruit with a hint of fresh peppery herb. (9/10)

Taste: Taste is very similar to the smell. It has a peppery earthy fresh herb taste.  The inhale has a funny taste to it, it tastes the way carpet walls in roller skating rinks smelled in the 80’s and 90’s. The exhale tastes like some straight fire. Unfortunately the taste is NOT as good as the smell. Eliminate that funny taste on the inhale and it would have easily gotten a nine out of ten in the taste department. (8/10)

Effects: Day or night time use. Felt like giving a speech to the world after I was done chiefing. Super talkative, energizing medicine. (9/10)

Potency: Strong (8/10)
