Is it true that the only reason the weed is all purple like that because it goes threw a sudden drop in temperature? I’ve always been told that but never knew for sure.

In some cases this is true, but usually when the plant turns purple as a result of temperature drop, it only happens on the leaves, which are mostly trimmed away on the end product. This bud would look pretty much all green after manicuring.
‘True’ purple plants turn purple late in flowering regardless of temperature. The entire bud will turn purple, and not just the leaves.
Some people reduce their night time temperatures intentionally late in flowering in order to try and force the plant to turn purple and thus improving the bag appeal. As true purple buds are a lot less common than green, people who don’t know any better will pay more, thinking the weed is a lot more rare an potent than normal.
Purple has very little correlation with potency however. If anything, many knowledgeable pot connoisseurs even say purple weed is less potent. It may have a more exotic look and smell, but that’s all.

I heard it can turn purple by lack of nitrogen too?is that true? N all true purple strain I get here in cali taste great. Purp kush or grandaddy n the grape ape have all great grape jelly taste when I have had emm so I say the potency is very high n flavor comes with it

It can turn purple on the leaves from a drop in temp. Not that purple though. You can also tell true purple because when you break open the bud there is purple running all the way into the center. Not just on the leaves, or leaf edges.

I’ve been growing Sensi Star from seed from the actual breeder and its leaves turn purple, and sometimes yellow and purple kind of like sfv OG Kush leaves. Anyway these plants have never been in temps. below 73 degrees and the buds come out light green with no purple. Just thought I would throw that out there for food for thought. Peace, and remember…always pay it forward and be kind to that person you might think is a “loser” because chances are they are probably one of the smartest, kindest, and decent person you will ever meet. Never judge books by their cover! You never know what you may find
