Shiva X

Shiva X

Strain Name: Shiva X

Genetics: Shiva crossed with an unknown sativa

Grade: A

Type: Indica dominant hybrid

Looks: Big, slightly lumpy, light green buds. Loads of orange hairs and trichomes.

Smell: Strong, clean fruit smell. The slightest hint of pine and spice.

Taste: Very mild smoke in the throat and lungs, with a slightly spicy taste and heavy tingles in the nose that lasted for some time after exhaling.

Effects: Fast-acting and strong medicine. First, a big head rush with strong euphoric sensations and a distinct increase in heart-rate that some users may find uncomfortable. This is the “kick” that initially caused the growers to want to call this strain “Chuck Norris.” But someone got a little paranoid (an understandable side-effect) and was afraid of being sued by Chuck’s lawyer’s, or of getting their ass kicked by Chuck, or something like that, so it doesn’t really have a name. Anyhow, it’s excellent medicine that will leave even high-tolerance patients energetic and up for a couple of hours. It eventually mellows out into a lazy and thoughtful buzz, but never leaves you feeling drowsy – even after heavy consumption.

Potency: High potency. Not recommended for new patients or those with heart or blood pressure issues.

Reviewed by: brokensun

Good Strain For: Depression. ADD. Narcolepsy.

Notes: Shiva, the indica parent of this strain, is supposedly known for it’s pronounced drowsy effects. This medicine is the polar opposite. In fact, the only trait that seems to have been passed along from the Shiva parent is the incredible potency. This seems rather appropriate given the dual nature of this strain’s namesake, the Hindu god Shiva, both the destroyer and the giver of life.

Romulan

Strain Name: Romulan

Grade: A++

Type: 100% Indica

Looks: Thick heavy buds, generously coated in resin. Light green with lots of orange hairs. While growing this was a gorgeous plant. Very high calyx to leaf ratio with four massive main colas. Red petioles and classic dark green wide fingered indica leaves.

Smell: The best way I can describe it is like lemon incense. Very spicy and fruity, with a peppery finish.

Taste: Lemony on the inhale, spicy and hashy on the exhale.

Effects: This shit will melt your face! There is a reason this strain is legendary here in Canada (and all over the world). This is the most potent and powerful indica I have ever smoked. Two hits is plenty, three hits and I’m gone. The effects are very much body-centric, and quite creeper. You feel nothing for the first 10 minutes, and then it feels like your face is expanding and your entire head starts to pulsate. It’s a very unique, and really cool feeling that I have never felt in any other strain. The head effects melt into a full body narcotic stone, that usually puts me to sleep after about an hour and a half. If I manage to stay awake, it gives me major appetite stimulation. This is EXCELLENT for any gastrointestinal issues.

Potency: Very, very potent. Be careful with this one, it can be a total day-wrecker. Total narcotic stone.

Grower’s Notes: This is a legendary strain here in western Canada, and for good reason. Not only is it powerful, but it’s very easy to grow, it stays quite squat, but very bushy. Yield is excellent, and trimming is a breeze. Top it once, and you’ll get anywhere from four to six main colas that swell right until the end. Very fruity and spicy smelling. Can’t say enough good things about this one. If you’re lucky enough to come across a sample, pick it up. If you are a grower, grab your seeds from Next Generation Seeds from Canada. 100% germination, 90% females, extremely uniform growth in all plants. Very stable. I was very happy with these seeds.

northern lights

Strain Name: Northern Lights

Breeder: Peak Seeds

Grade: A+

Type: Indica

Looks: Dense, smallish, popcorn sized nuggets. Bright green with dark orange hairs, and heavily frosted.

Smell: During flowering smell was quite acrid, with an almost chemical scent of ammonia. After curing for 4 weeks, the chemical smell vanished and was replaced by a wonderful classic skunk scent. The strongest skunk smell of any strains I’ve grown (which I absolutely love). Breeder’s notes said this was not a strong smelling strain, which was totally false (at least with this particular pheno).

Taste: Not much in the taste department, just typical earthy taste, with hints of lemon on the first couple puffs.

Effects: Very much a body stone, almost entirely felt in the chest, and legs. Very mellow, no racy or cerebral effects. This strain works wonders for my nausea and stomach pain, and provides a very nice muscle relaxant effect. Legs get a little jelly-like after a few hits, and it makes me feel quite weak due to the potent muscle relaxation. This is a perfect night time strain for me, and ticks all the important boxes: helps me sleep, no raciness or paranoia (I suffer from panic attacks, so this is important), gives me a great appetite boost, relaxes my muscles, and helps me sleep.

Potency: Medicinally, it’s very potent, but is not an overpowering stone for those looking to get really torched. As far as reliving symptoms I rate it’s potency an 8 out of 10. For mind-altering effects, not very powerful, and I would have to give it a 6 or 7. However, for my needs, this is my favorite meds right now.

Grower’s Notes:
This particular northern lights was grown from seeds purchased from Peak Seeds BC. They claim this version is Northern Lights number 5, crossed with another NL from europe. Out of 10 beans, 50% were male, and about 3 of the females had problems with very weak and floppy stems that could not even support the weight of the plant itself. Not the greatest numbers, but I still got two great keepers out of this batch, and selected this plant as my mother. Yield was less than staggering, but nothing to be ashamed of either. However, the medicinal value of this plant more than makes up for the issues it had. Will be keeping this one in my regular rotation for some time to come.

Pakistan Chitral Kush

Strain Name: Pakistan Chitral Kush (aka Purple Pakistani)

Grade: A+

Type: 100% landrace Indica

Looks: Deep purple, with dark orange hairs and deep green mixed throughout. Buds on this plant were small, but incredibly dense and heavy. Calyxes turned purple in last few weeks without cold temps, and resin production was very heavy, coating the small buds in a nice layer of crystals.

Smell: While growing smelled strongly of menthol, with a hard-to-place smell that I can only describe as stale “After 8″ chocolate mints. To be honest, it was actually kind of off-putting. Once cured, the chocolate smell came out even further, and the menthol seemed to be subdued, and at this point I actually really enjoyed the smell. Very unique, and unlike any other plant I’ve grown.

Taste: Menthol on the inhale, and sandalwood/incense on the exhale. Very smooth, with moderate expansion in the lungs.

Effects: Very mellow. Absolutely no raciness or paranoia whatsoever. The first time I smoked this after a three week cure, I realized I was walking around with a huge grin on my face for about an hour. Relaxing, happy, and humour stimulating. Didn’t seem to increase my appetite all that much, so I can’t say it’s too medicinal for my purposes (Crohn’s disease), but that didn’t detract from the overall experience. This is a bud that is perfect to just relax and chill at the end of the day. Not a heavy or clumsy indica stone, and not a racey sativa, but the perfect balance between the two – even considering it’s pure indica.

Potency: Certainly the least potent in my arsenal, but not in a bad way. This isn’t a bud you would smoke if you wanted to get destroyed, but this is your ticket if you want a happy, cheerful, social smoke that isn’t going to incapacitate you.

Grower’s Notes: This was the only keeper plant out of a pack of 20 beans (from Beanho). It was an absolute whore to grow. Nothing but constant problems with deficiencies, slow growth, ph problems, etc. It was a miracle I got this one to the finish line. This is the most difficult and finicky plant I have ever grown, and I have conferred with other growers of this strain, that I’m not alone. This was the only plant to turn purple, all other phenos were very green, and not to my liking at all. Ended up cutting my losses and destroying all the other plants so I could start on something else.

With that being said, it seems that it’s an issue of poor breeding here. I have spoken with other growers who have grown this plant from Cannabiogen’s stock (the original breeder), and have had none of the problems that myself and others have had with Beanho’s seeds. Yes, this is an inbred landrace strain and as such you can’t expect the same vigour or yield as other proven hybrids, but even with that being taken into account, this plant was just too problematic to be recommended to all but the most experienced grower.

However, if you lucky enough to grow this plant, and find this rare pheno, and avoid many of the problems that I ran into, you will be well rewarded with your effort. The finished product is absolutely amazing.
