northern lights

Strain Name: Northern Lights

Breeder: Peak Seeds

Grade: A+

Type: Indica

Looks: Dense, smallish, popcorn sized nuggets. Bright green with dark orange hairs, and heavily frosted.

Smell: During flowering smell was quite acrid, with an almost chemical scent of ammonia. After curing for 4 weeks, the chemical smell vanished and was replaced by a wonderful classic skunk scent. The strongest skunk smell of any strains I’ve grown (which I absolutely love). Breeder’s notes said this was not a strong smelling strain, which was totally false (at least with this particular pheno).

Taste: Not much in the taste department, just typical earthy taste, with hints of lemon on the first couple puffs.

Effects: Very much a body stone, almost entirely felt in the chest, and legs. Very mellow, no racy or cerebral effects. This strain works wonders for my nausea and stomach pain, and provides a very nice muscle relaxant effect. Legs get a little jelly-like after a few hits, and it makes me feel quite weak due to the potent muscle relaxation. This is a perfect night time strain for me, and ticks all the important boxes: helps me sleep, no raciness or paranoia (I suffer from panic attacks, so this is important), gives me a great appetite boost, relaxes my muscles, and helps me sleep.

Potency: Medicinally, it’s very potent, but is not an overpowering stone for those looking to get really torched. As far as reliving symptoms I rate it’s potency an 8 out of 10. For mind-altering effects, not very powerful, and I would have to give it a 6 or 7. However, for my needs, this is my favorite meds right now.

Grower’s Notes:
This particular northern lights was grown from seeds purchased from Peak Seeds BC. They claim this version is Northern Lights number 5, crossed with another NL from europe. Out of 10 beans, 50% were male, and about 3 of the females had problems with very weak and floppy stems that could not even support the weight of the plant itself. Not the greatest numbers, but I still got two great keepers out of this batch, and selected this plant as my mother. Yield was less than staggering, but nothing to be ashamed of either. However, the medicinal value of this plant more than makes up for the issues it had. Will be keeping this one in my regular rotation for some time to come.

Blueberry

Strain Name: Blueberry

Grade: A+

Type: Hybrid – mostly indica (although the pheno’s I grew certainly had some sativa characteristics.

Breeder: The mom and dad were from Joey Weed, and this plant was the result of taking the strongest and most vigorous male and female from that lot. Surprisingly, the resulting seeds demonstrated great uniformity and consistency, and were not NEARLY as nute sensitive as the parents, and much faster growing too. I had great success with these seeds, but the parents were nothing but trouble.

Looks: This was my first real attempt at growing medical grade marijuana (after a few half-assed failed attempts), and I was only using cfls, so the buds were quite small, however, what they lack in size, they make up for in overall quality of meds.

Small, but incredibly sticky icky icky…ooo-wee! Absolutely glistening with trichromes with lots of brown hairs, and purple, blue, and dark green calyxes.

The leaves started to turn color around week 6, and continued until almost the entire plant was blue/purple/dark green – and this was not a result of temperature. The buds remained more green, but still show off some of the color of the whole plant.

Smell: I would have never believed it, but it actually DOES smell like blueberry muffins. Not a weed smell to it at all. Every time I crack the jar I bury my nose in and take a long sweet smell. I honestly thought people were talking out of their ass when they say it smells like blueberry, but this shit really does. Breaking up the buds releases one of the most heavenly scents I have ever smelled.

Taste: Sweet but earthy. You get a little of the berry taste in the inhale, but more hashy on the exhale. I could almost describe the inhale as the berry taste, the exhale as the muffin taste. Very smooth smoke, you’ll want to savor it to the end of the joint for sure.

Effects: The high is quick onset, and can be a little soaring and speedy if you dose a little high, but it mellows out into pure euphoria. This bud makes me laugh, makes tv amazing, music is enhanced – seems to have a lot of sativa characteristics. The indica side really helps my appetite – but this seems to take about an hour to kick in, just as the sativa effects are starting to wind down. Not good for sleep, this one will keep my energized after an initial almost-but-not-quite-couchlock phase. As far as pain relief and nausea relief – not the best for me. I find my UBC Chemo does better at that, but it also knocks my ass out.

This is a great daytime strain and mood enhancer, and I can see why it’s always on the top of everyone’s list. Can’t wait to do another batch!

Potency: Very high. I’m a lightweight for sure, even though I smoke daily to control my stomach pain and nause, but a joint will last me nearly a week – just taking a toke or two here and there throughout the daytime. I have to be careful not to overdo this one (and it’s hard because of the glorious taste and smell) otherwise I can get a little paranoid for the first hour or so. Effect mellow after an hour, but you won’t be needing to medicate for at least 3-4 hours after so this is certainly strong. Again, that’s strong for me, so result may vary.
